Here are a few ideas for things to do in Antequera. Whether you have a day or just a few hours, this little guide will help you choose the must-see attractions!
\n
♥ Try Mollete, Porra, or Bienmesabe
\n
But what is all this?! Well, mollete is a small, flat, soft, and very tasty bread that goes very well with olive oil and cured ham, for example. In the blog Pollo "Asao" con Ensalada (in Spanish), we tell you where to eat the best ones! Porra is a dish that has its own national competition during the Antequera Spring Fair (in May). It is a cold soup made with tomatoes, bread, peppers, and other ingredients. At the Arte de Cozina restaurant, if you order it, they'll give you the recipe! And what about Bienmesabe? The ultimate in typical Antequera fare! A very sweet dessert, divinely prepared at the Convent of Belén by the Poor Clare nuns (sold directly).

♠ Visit the Antequera Dolmens
\n
Recently declared a World Heritage Site, it is well worth a visit! We recommend arriving at 9 a.m. and starting with the documentary on the construction of these megaliths. That way, when you enter the Menga, Viera, or Romeral dolmens, you will truly appreciate the feat of engineering behind these large stone structures, which date back to the Neolithic period. Check here for the opening days and times of the Antequera Dolmens.
\n
♠ Climb up to the Plaza de los Escribanos at sunset
\n
Before sunset, we recommend climbing up to the Plaza de los Escribanos and visiting the Real Colegiata. Not only will you be amazed by the architecture of this Renaissance-style building, but also by the theatrical representation of historical figures from the city. Infante Don Fernando and Tazgona will recount fragments of the era in a beautifully performed monologue. Once the visit is over, head to the Mirador de las Almenillas to watch the sunset over more than 30 bell towers and learn about the legend of the Peña de los Enamorados (Lovers' Rock).
\n
♠ Go hiking in Torcal de Antequera
\n
Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful natural parks in Andalusia. This enormous stone forest will enchant you. A marvel created by nature just 15 kilometers from Antequera. We recommend the 5 Senses Hike or the summer program Noches que Despiertan tus Sentidos (Nights that Awaken your Senses), which consists of a sunset hike, a delicious dinner on the terrace, and an astronomy session. For us, this is undoubtedly the best way to experience this incredible karst landscape. A tip for mealtimes: the Torcal Alto Restaurant (in the Visitor Center, with spectacular views) serves wonderful food! And if it's full, you'll also eat very well at Molino Blanco.
